Join us in the South End Library Park as we host another Winter Pop-up Event on Thursday, December 11th from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

We've got something for everyone: 

This is a free book giveaway  for all ages! Say hello to staff, enjoy festive music, participate in the "Dear Future Self..." activity, grab some goodies, and most importantly take home free books! We look forward to seeing you as we say goodbye to 2025 and hello to the New Year!

South End Story Time

As the winter months approach, we’re taking an extended pause on our weekly Story Time program in the Library Park. This beloved activity will resume in 2026!

We’re excited to still offer a festive celebration this winter! Join us for another December pop-up event and Little Groove concert to mark the Winter Solstice. Specific dates will be announced on the BPL website.

Winter Solstice Concert with Little Groove

Come and join Little Groove on Friday, December 19th starting at 10:30am as they host an end of the year concert, to celebrate the Winter Solstice! Let’s party together with lots of singing and dancing in the South End Library Park before the year ends. Preschoolers, caretakers, and classes are all welcome!

Little Groove is the top voted music class for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in Boston. The classes are tailor-made to help your little ones learn and interact through sound, sight, and touch in an immersive and engaging live music setting. Children use real instruments such as drums, shakers, and tambourines, giving them a hands-on experience and fostering a love for music.

Daughters of the New Year:

What does the future hold for those born in the years of the Dragon, Tiger, and Goat? In present day New Orleans, Xuan Trung, former beauty queen turned refugee after the Fall of Saigon, is obsessed with divining her daughters' fates through their Vietnamese zodiac signs. But Trac, Nhi and Trieu diverge completely from their immigrant parents' expectations. Successful lawyer Trac hides her sexuality from her family; Nhi competes as the only woman of color on a Bachelor-esque reality TV show; and Trieu, a budding writer, is determined to learn more about her familial and cultural past. As the three sisters begin to encounter strange glimpses of long-buried secrets from the ancestors they never knew, the story of the Trung women unfurls to reveal the dramatic events that brought them to America. Moving backwards in time, E.M. Tran takes us into the high school classrooms of New Orleans, to Saigon beauty pageants, to twentieth century rubber plantations, traversing a century as the Trungs are both estranged and united by the ghosts of their tumultuous history.
