Massachusetts lawmakers have approved a $330 million supplemental budget in the waning days of the two-year legislative session. The bulk of the spending, more than 80 percent, is slated to help cover higher than expected Medicaid costs. The spending bill also includes about $8.5 million to help cover the Legislature’s own expenses. The bill was approved on voice votes with no debate just two days before New Years. Few lawmakers were at the Statehouse or in either the House and Senate chambers at the time of the votes. A single objection could have derailed the bill. Also included in the spending plan is money for public safety, elder affairs, and energy and environmental affairs. The bill still needs Gov. Deval Patrick’s signature. Article URL:
